Roaming further
Wahoo’s all-new Roam now features an anti-glare 2.8in touchscreen display, with all the UX features riders value in a GPS head unit. Screen sensitivity is set to work easily with gloved fingers, even when pinch, zoom or swipe touching the Roam 3 interface.
With Roam 3, designers at Wahoo have paid detailed attention to choosing fonts and screen resolution, delivering excellent contrast and graphic recognition, even when riding out in bright, glaring conditions. Mapping information display includes points of interest, elevation profiling and road type, with voice guidance for turn-by-turn navigation available for those routes where all your focus needs to be ahead of the front wheel, not the stem.
Wahoo grades the Roam 3 for 25 hours of battery endurance between full recharges, and its enhanced software should make syncing to third-party apps and services much slicker than before.
The more compact option
If your eyesight is excellent and you value aero on the gravel or mountain bike set-up, Wahoo’s more compact Bolt 3 will appeal.
Smaller than the Roam, with a 2.3in display, it blends the functionality riders need in a GPS head unit with a compact form factor that won’t trigger any aero drag OCD.
Like the new Roam, the upgraded Bolt 3 also features enhanced software and processing, which promises to reduce lag and make menu navigation, feature selection and set-up much quicker. Wahoo’s claimed battery endurance for the Bolt 3 is 20 hours.
Enhanced safety tech
Beyond its third-generation GPS head units, Wahoo’s product team has also developed the Trackr Radar. It’s a rear light that integrates with head units, delivering better rider visibility to vehicular traffic, enhancing ride safety.
When the Wahoo Radar senses a vehicle approaching from the rear, it alters the flash pattern for increased awareness. There’s an accelerometer in the light, which recognises deceleration and correspondingly increases the Radar’s lighting intensity.
The Radar rear light is part of Wahoo’s device ecosystem and pairs seamlessly with the Elemnt head units. It also works with other head units, provided they have Bluetooth and ANT+ compatibility. Wahoo’s estimated usable battery life for the Radar is 20 hours before requiring a recharge.
Riders keen on the third-generation Elemnt GPS head units can purchase them starting in the second week of May. Pricing for the Bolt 3 is £300, with the Roam 3 priced at £400. The Trackr Radar traffic sensing and smart-illuminating rear light doesn’t have an on-sale date yet, but it has a confirmed price of £180.
